"Nissan is very pleased to offer the most affordable racing series in Canada with one of the most affordable subcompact cars on the market. We will continue to build on the momentum established in the past four years with drivers and fans,” says Joni Paiva, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “Nearly five years after its return to Canada, the Nissan Micra has its own cult following, and this is evident through the Nissan Micra Cup, where Micra owners come out to the track in droves to support their favourite drivers.”
Building a premiere racing experience for drivers and racing fans
With a race ready Micra Cup car at an affordable cost of $24 500, the Nissan Micra Cup is Canada's most affordable racing series, giving many Canadians the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a racecar, something that many wouldn't otherwise be able to experience. Whether it's the empty nester who is taking up a hobby, a young karting driver looking at going one level up or a hardcore racing fan looking to get into the action, the Micra Cup offers something for everyone.
“For the fifth season, we are expecting a very strong group of drivers on the starting line. There will be plenty of veterans and rookies which demonstrates the diversity of talent the Nissan Micra Cup attracts,” says Jacques Deshaies, owner of JD Promotion & Compétition and the series promoter. “After four years, the Nissan Micra Cup has affirmed its position as a great bridge between karting and car racing, for those looking to take the next step in their motorsport career. We have at least five or six new rookies already confirmed for 2019, and this will surely create an interesting dynamic on the track. I’m counting down the days to the opening race at CTMP next May!”

About the Nissan Micra Cup
Sanctioned by Auto Sport Québec (ASQ) and presented by JD Promotion & Compétition with the support of Nissan Canada, the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup exclusively featured the stock Micra 1.6 S M/T model with minor modifications, including racing suspension – to render it race-ready.
Unlike most motorsport events, each competing Nissan Micra race vehicle had the exact same specifications, resulting in a competition that truly revealed the most skilled drivers. The 2015 Nissan Micra Cup race vehicles were equipped with the Nissan Micra's stock 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with dual fuel injection and Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Timing Control) and stock 5-speed manual transmission. In its inaugural season, more than 25 Nissan Micras competed on each race weekend which included two hours of track time consisting of: a 30-minute trial, a 30-minute qualifying session and two 30-minute races.
Young karting drivers, the average Canadian looking for an entry point into motorsport competition, or anyone who wants to experience the rush of adrenaline inherent with racing cars are all well-suited to this series. In summary, the Nissan Micra Cup is for people who are passionate about motorsports, want to experience all the fun and thrills of racing, but without spending staggering amounts of money.
